Grand Roy Government receives additional help from the Isle of Bute, Scotland

How did it all begin?

My P4/5 class at North Bute Primary were doing a project on weather when Hurricane Ivan struck. They were keen to find out more and in their own way wanted tot help. The school filled plastic wallets filled with stationary they had collected over a few weeks to be sent to help their fellow pupils on that devastated island. I was made aware of a school called Grand Roy Government School through an email sent out by the principal Janice Thomas requesting help. The children sent out their wallets and new books bought with money raised through a bring and buy sale and the cost of airfreight was met by North Bute Parent Teacher Association.

What Happened Next ?

As a teacher I am aware of all that I use within the classroom as an aid to teaching and wanted to send out the surplus educational resources that Argyll and Bute have in surplus. So, with permission from the Council these education al resources from schools were uplifted and stored in the Community Centre in Sandbank, Dunoon. On the 1st July 2005 the first container was packed and set on its long journey to the "land of Spices" Grenada.
